“Thank you so much for working on the garden and sharing the harvest. My class loved coming out there and tasting the carrots last week. My favorite student quote was, “I have never had anything THIS fresh before!” You have encouraged me to garden at home too!” — Chesnut 3rd Grade Teacher Mrs. Clein
Earlier this month, Chesnut Changer Garden Leader Carissa Malone hosted 8 classes in Chesnut’s garden, to harvest and taste carrots. Some were cosmic purple carrots, (which taste a lot like their orange cousins). In all, four Kindergarten classes and four 3rd grade classes sampled the bounty of the garden, which additionally yielded 5.5 pounds of carrots for a donation to the food bank on our street, Malachi’s Storehouse. The food pantry, run by St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, provides emergency groceries to about 85 low-income families in our community. Grow, grow, Chesnut Garden!
